Since completing an Msc in Environmental Management with Distinction at Nottingham University, Elliot Carter has provided environmental consultancy for 10 years on a wide range of construction projects around the country. He has had varied roles focussing on ecological protection, low impact material specification, low energy strategies and sustainable planning policy; and has personally been involved in over 200 BREEAM and EcoHomes assessments. He has excellent written and verbal communication skills with a real enthusiasm for sustainable design and mankind’s relationship with the natural world.
When not thinking about green buildings, he indulges his passion for nature by snorkelling, wildlife watching and looking after the office aquarium.
Charlotte is Practice Manager for Eight Associates and is usually the first point of contact for new and existing clients. She has an overview of all projects within the office and her role is to support the Consultants and ensure the Practice runs smoothly. With a background of over 10 years in Marketing she has implemented several re-branding exercises. Charlotte also organises all training, corporate events, seminars, and exhibitions for Eight Associates ensuring the practice has a presence at relevant events, recently including EcoBuild, MIPIM, 100% Design and various AJ Conferences.
Charlotte is also a member of the Green Register Steering Group and has been designing, making and selling jewellery for over 15 years.
Jean-Pierre is a licenced EcoHomes and Code for Sustainable Homes assessor and as such is responsible for taking schemes from planning through to certification. He also provides feasibility stage guidance, renewable energy design advice, and energy modeling.
Jean-Pierre possesses an outside view on building design and sustainability which he has applied to researching tall and mixed-use buildings in the London area. He has carried out academic research into the economics of patents and commons in the biotechnology sector. Higher education establishments attended include the University of York and the Université Louis Pasteur in Strasbourg, in line with his French/British/Japanese background.
JP is a keen amateur chef with a particular interest in French wines and cuisine and enjoys researching both subjects on a regular basis…
On completing an MSc in Environmental Technology with Distinction at Imperial College London, David O’Rorke was retained as a Research Associate at the university on an EC funded project called LEnSE (Methodology Development towards a Label for Environmental, Social and Economic Buildings). Working alongside specialists from around Europe, David has been helping to develop a trans-European building assessment methodology. He is a licenced BREEAM Assessor for both offices and industrial buildings, participating in a range of projects from large industrial developments to top-end residential refurbishments. David is in a band and regularly plays gigs around London, he can often be seen cycling round town, though not when he’s carrying his double bass…
On achieving a BSc in Environmental Science at the University of Southampton, Emma went on to complete an MSc in Environmental Management for Business at Cranfield University. Since joining Eight Associates, Emma has become a licensed CODE for Sustainable Homes assessor and has been involved in several residential assessments.
Her experience in developing local council policy has been useful when working closely with various councils and planning officers, after working for the LB Barking and Dagenham, where she assisted with the Sustainability Appraisals of the Council’s Local Development Framework. Outside of work, Emma is a member of a local Amateur Dramatics society in her hometown of Luton.
Since graduating from Bennington College USA in 1992 Loic has been dedicated to sustainability in both his professional and private life. With a BA in Architecture and Environmental Sciences, he has performed various functions ranging from coordinating waste minimization programmes for local authorities and managing premises for an educational charity to freelance architectural design for the Earthwork Trust. As part of an Msc. in Architecture at the University of East London and the Centre for Alternative Technology, he has conducted research on the desirability of car-free development for the Government’s proposed Eco-towns. As a member of Eight Associates he specializes in BREEAM Assessments for Schools and Offices and facilitating Sustainable Design Project workshops.
Outside of work, he spends as much time as possible in nature, taking photographs and writing. He lives in rural Hampshire with his family where he has been instrumental in setting up a small holistic primary school.
Kelly is the Accounts Manager for Eight Associates. Having come from a construction background spending over 4 years as a project administrator before moving into accounting, her experience of working within a large architectural practice has given her an in depth knowledge of how a construction project is run from inception to completion. Kelly completed the AAT qualification and became a member of the Association of Accounting Technicians in 2007. She is now working towards her ACCA qualification.
When Kelly’s not number crunching she can be found creating masterpieces from organic wool and runs a lunchtime knitting workshop.
On completing a BSc in Marine Environmental Sciences at both Southampton Institute and Sydney University, Australia, Sandra steered her career path into the building industry whilst working for Arup. She later moved to work on the Crossrail project as a Safeguarding Coordinator, where she worked alongside the Local Authorities overseeing planning applications affected by the proposed route. Sandra is a licenced BREEAM Assessor and has carried out over 50 EcoHomes and Code for Sustainable Homes assessments, participating in a range of projects from top-end residential refurbishments to large mixed-use developments.
She is currently working on a couple of overseas projects that are being assessed under the LEED assessment criteria. Outside work, Sandra has completed a 250 km race in the Atacama Desert and is currently training for a race in the Gobi Desert.
Sam has joined us as Practice Manager whilst Charlotte is on maternity leave. Before joining Eight, Sam enjoyed a career in market and social research, working for both large blue-chip organisations and government departments.
Sam is a mum of three and now divides her time between managing her three unruly sons and the Eight Associates team.
Since graduating from Nottingham University with a BA in Geography Mike has indulged his appetite for travelling by spending six months in South America learning Spanish. He has since settled down into the Eight Associates team and is relishing the challenge of turning Britain’s building stock into a finely tuned green machine!
Mike is football mad. His free time is spent between talking about it, watching it and playing it on Clapham Common. Mike has also recently bought a set of golf clubs and can usually be found in the bunker!
Luke graduated from Nottingham Trent University with a Masters Degree in International Relations in late 2006 and has been involved in sustainability and environmental issues in the built environment ever since. Having experience of carrying out SAP energy ratings, EcoHomes, Code for Sustainable Homes and BREEAM assessments. Luke is now expanding his knowledge of renewable energy.
Outside of work Luke enjoys socialising with friends, playing guitar, recording music and playing football.
Tim has a degree in Architecture from Kingston University with one year at the Architecture Association and a degree in Law from Bristol University. He also has a Diploma in Furniture Design and Manufacture, was Operations Manager for Vitra UK Ltd and helped set up a specialist seating division for people with disabilities with Kirton Health Group Ltd. Most recently trained as a Sustainable Design consultant at ECD Project Services, he is a registered EcoHomes, Code for Sustainable Homes, NHER SAP Plan and SAP Site Assessor. He has successfully steered a number of schemes to EcoHomes Excellent in Croydon and provided planning stage advice for small residential developments in London and the South East. Experienced in working with project architects, developers, planning offices and housing associations. Clients have included Galliford Try, ZSL, Integra (Brighton) Ltd, Kind & Co, East Thames HA, Coomsco, Peabody, St. Aidans, Barratt Homes and Berkeley First.
Travel, food, photography, architecture, family and the dog are his passions while leisure time is spent walking, cycling and canoeing. Tim has a dream to build a ‘ZeCo2’ or Passiv House one day if he can find the plot of land.
