Although The Code for Sustainable Homes has now officially replaced EcoHomes for new homes in England, EcoHomes assessments can still be carried out on refurbishments, new homes in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland or where a Local Authority specifically stipulates EcoHomes as a planning condition. Eight Associates still therefore carries out a large number of EcoHomes assessments.

An EcoHomes assessment reviews 8 categories and results in an overall rating from Pass to Excellent. Unlike the Code, there are no restrictions on which credits must be chosen for a particular site, resulting in a very flexible approach to achieving the final score. It can therefore also be a useful framework for an early stage project sustainability review even where formal certification is not sought.
