Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) is the US Green Building Council’s equivalent of the UK’s BREEAM rating. It also follows a similar credit structure to BREEAM, although there are some mandatory issues to consider prior to registering a building.

Eight Associates are ‘accredited LEED professionals’, providing knowledegable support throughout the design process, and submitting the project to the US GBC on behalf of the team. Although a LEED assessment can be submitted by the design team, additional credits are available for appointing an accredited LEED professional for the assessment.

We normally suggest undertaking LEED rather than BREEAM in two situations. Firstly, in countries where LEED is more recognised than BREEAM, such as in the USA or United Arab Emirates. Secondly, where a US company wants to compare its UK portfolio directly with its US buildings; in which case a Client may request both BREEAM and LEED assessments.
